I very much enjoyed reading the many messages on your site and would be very glad to hear from any St. Mary's School alums. I graduated in 1959 and would like to have any information on fellow students of that era. My wife and I are planning to visit my old haunts when we make our long planned cross country RV pilgrimage. So, if you have any knowledge of any students in the class of 59 drop me a line. Nick

Great Site, born and raised in Medina. The teens have always needed something to do in that town. That is one of the reasons I moved. If children have nothing to do, they will find something to do. Good or Bad. If medina would invest in the teens, they would be investing into the future of Medina. They needed to do it 20 years ago, and it sounds like they still need to do it today. I have teen age kids today. In our community, less than 5 miles from my house, they have a choice of The movie theatre, the skating rink, the skate park, the mall, the athletic fields, ....just to name a few. We have a low crime rate, and very happy teenagers. The parents in Medina need to get together and go to some city meetings. Let them know that your community needs something today to help with tomorrow.
My Grandfather was born in Medina. His name is George Monroe Barnes. Born December 25, 1980. He moved to Montreal where he was a chauffer.I am looking for any family connections.

I am attempting to locate Phillips family members. I would like to hear from any Phillips in the Medina area. My great-great grandfather lived in Medina and is buried there. He was Phineas Phillips, born 1798 in Vermont , married Ziporah [nee] Zebrath. Their children were George P.,b.1823 [Frances C.] and Sarah. J.,b.1834 [James Brown], and my great-grandfather Charles A.,born in 1842. He married three times, Mary Nolan, Ella Strickland, and Sabina Bennett Furlong. Their children were John E.,b 1876, Caroline A.,b.1897, Mary [or Mamie],b.1881, and stepson William Furlong. If any of these people are your grand or great-grandparents or your great or great-great aunt or uncle then you and I are cousins a few times removed. This is a subject of great interest to me, I would love to hear from anyone! Best regards and thanks to all,

What is with the construction? Did the town put a time limit on the work? It looks like those crews tried to squeeze 3 years worth of repair and renovation into 3 months. The Main Street looks like a battle zone in Croatia or Bosnia. Someone needs to think a lot harder next time.

My comment for the Village is this: I'd like to have a long, private, civilized discussion with you regarding the parking ban for large trucks on the village streets, mainly what was the person's motivation for drafting such a ban??? It seems like more and more, people and officials are placing more and more restrictions on large trucks, yet if it wasn't for the nation's 3 million or so truck drivers, neither you nor your constituents would have anyything that you use and need every single day...Sure, you want us to continue bringing in these essential products to your doorstep, but you place a huge inconvenience upon those drivers who live here, including myself, because I'm not able to park my cab in front of my own residence (117 North Avenue) at any time, not just for the winter general parking ban, for what? It was suggested by a high-ranking official that I ask for permission (and possibly pay rental fees) from one of the local business owners to park my cab at their place of business...I say that idea is "Nuts!" If I charged you rent to park your car some distance away from your home because you're banned from parking on the street in front of your residence year round, would you not feel that this is totally ludicrous? Now you've put yourself in my shoes...Thank you...Have a great day...

Linda & I would like to thank the town of Ridgeway, Medina & surrounding area for your support during the restoration of The Cobblestone Inn in the wonderful Hamlet of Oak Orchard on the Ridge. We purchased the Inn (formerly "Speedy's Hotel) in Oct. 03 and it is undergoing a complete renovation to serve as a Bed & Breakfast and Antique shop. The Cobblestone Inn is one of, if not, the largest cobblestone structures on Ridge Rd. The Inn has a very rich history serving Ridge Rd. as a stage coach stop. Our intentions are to return this structure to its former glory. We are located at 12225 Ridge Rd.and we have an open invitation to for anyone stop by to check out our progress on this incredible, historical structure. We are very interested in locating any old photographs, newspaper clippings, etc., of the Inn so that we can display a chronological history of this structure inside the entry way.

I was born in Medina in 1952. My last name was Tracy. My father was Gordon S.Tracy and my mother was Evelyn J. Caleb. We moved to Melbourne Florida in 1961 but I still have fond memories of Medina and Middleport. My husband Jeff and I visited for a couple of days last June (2003) while on our way to Niagara Falls. It is still a beautiful little town and we enjoyed ourselves immensely. Even went under the culvert and honked the horn like my Dad used to do.

I, as a child, often visited with the mother of Sidney Mayell, she was my great aunt and a lovely lady. My last trip out to Medina, NY this past summer I took advantage of Gary Valentine's Wild Trails Guide Service (a Medina based business). At Wild Trails Guide Service, Gary offers you an opportunity to enjoy nature in a wilderness environment.
His trips are geared towards the novice outdoor enthusiast. The trails are easy to moderate and the peaks we climb are between 2000 and 3000 feet. The water we paddled was mostly flat with most portages under 1 mile.
Our guided trip took place in the Adirondack Park. Just a five hour drive from Rochester can put you in the heart of the back country. Wild Trails will outfit you with all you need to make your trek enjoyable. Wild Trail's also provided us with backpacks, sleeping bags, tents, canoes, and all we had to bring was our clothes and our desire to enjoy nature. The Adirondacks offer colorful sunsets, New York's highest peaks and crystal clear ponds and streams. You'll see beavers, loons, and other wildlife in their natural habitat.
Medina has a lot of unique things like this to offer and is based right in your own backyard. This is something to look into and take advantage of!!

Hello all, Class of '94. I left Medina in 1986, just seeing if anyone I knew was around. I got married, we have no kids, and believe me Christine and I are GLAD. Just bought/built my first house, it's 3400 sq. ft, and way more space then we are used to having, which is nice. 2K/month is not nice, but what a huge tax break!

Greetings from The Bluegrass State! Just a note to say "Hi!" to all my family up there - St. Onge, Ramming, Wasnock, and Thomas...plus all the rest related by marriage. My Grandfather, George Ramming, once had a butcher shop there on main street and he also had a Buick dealership too. I currently live in a little village in KY that's almost a twin to Medina with its pretty main street and square and friendly folks. We don't have the Erie Canal running through it but we do have a railroad track. Like Orleans County, our county is a farming community too which is probably why I'm happy to have settled here...it's a lot like home! Best wishes to all!

About The Paper Welder....My father purchased the company in the late 1980's. He was unable to get the parts plated at an acceptable cost. The chrome plating was previously performed in Japan, but the low volume, and new environmental regulations (hexavalent chromium) had made chrome plate prohibitively expensive. The company was dissolved in the early 1990s after selling off the inventory. Paper Welders are no longer produced, and there are no replacement parts available. Most of the paper welders were sold in Japan while my father owned the company.

"My thanks to the village of Middleport for the fine job they did in the village park event that was held August 30. As a 1976 graduate of Roy-Hart it was good to be back milling about with the towns people and enjoying food that was reasonably priced. There was also a pleasant performance by the United Methodist choir on the steps of the church and an enjoyable children's parade. Then in the evening was a Roy-Hart football game fundraiser including players from years back. In a time of individualism and commercialism, it is good to know that there is a town that values a sense of community." Rev.Tim Schultz Clarence, NY

Hey people, Remember these will be the "good old days" some day. If you want things to get better then you need to be active. I don't care whether it's in your church, on the School Board, the fire company, coaching sports, etc. Adults have to take responsibility for life. Sodus is much like Medina. We need to work together to improve things. There is too much negativity today. I graduated from Medina in 1965. Lived in Lyndonville until 1991 because of a job transfer. Take care.

The Memorial Day service at the park was quite a nice ceremony in honor of our veterans; the raising of the flag, the color guard, taps, the wreath and plants presented in memory of those who served our country. It was quite sad to see though how disrespectful some people were being. My two biggest issues were people being rude and disrespectful. Talking through the National Anthem, not facing the flag, one, carrying on like she had no manners, was actually almost yelling so the person she was talking to could hear her over the Anthem. Some would think I was talking about some teenagers, but in fact I am talking about adults who SHOULD KNOW BETTER. Kids were better behaved! Also, couldn't the person doing introductions and reading the names of the honored veterans at least dress up a little? Was it necessary for her to wear a Jean skirt, flannel jacket, and open back casual shoes? It really takes no effort to show a little respect to people who risked their lives to provide us with all the freedoms we seem to take for granted these days.

All teens and youths' of the medina area...with the closing of weeksend we are forced to find other means of entertainment to occupy or time. We are throwing a 3 day bash full af heavy metal bands. $5 for a bottomless cup of beer we are partying till all 6 kegs are gone. We have also bought a ton of condoms for your using pleasure...but those are optional.. We also have many games and and prizes to occupy us. We have a list of names and addresses of those responsible for the outragous acusations against the weeksend night club, We are ging away free cd's ad merchandise to the group of teens that can inflict the most damage to thier property without getting caught...so happy hunting....I will post the time and dates we will be setting this up...we have a few more bands to book...and we dont want to give them advanced notice of the time and dates....so we wont get shut down....To all music fans everywhere.....keep our hopes alive.....cuz there will always be a place for us to unite....even if people try to take it away

So Jennifer, which elected official are you really, or are you related to, or you are giving oral satisfaction too? I have to give you credit for your made up facts to support your propaganda, they sound pretty believable. You don’t have teens that come here (unless you don’t know what they do) because I invite all parents to come down and check out the club, I hate when parents don’t investigate what their kids are doing or where they’re going. If you were really so concerned, you would’ve come down personally and seen that Medina’s children were not in danger. _Nobody was fined!! (we probably didn’t get fined because the report had many blatant lies (sorry, errors)…which was ironically signed by to upstanding honest officials to be true…(little worried we might come after you guys?) _Look at the pictures of the club in Rhode Island and go to the WeeksEnd. They’re two totally different places. RI was a fireman’s nightmare to begin with. You won’t find anybody blowing fireballs at foam and curtains at our place, because we don’t have any. We remove our fire hazards. Yes we had safely used propane, we never knew it was wrong when we saw the closed in, hard-to-get-out-of patio of O’Brian’s using it. We are in no rush to fix any of our “violations” because at first I was publicly threatened “I’ve been looking for an excuse to shut you down, those people you have here on Saturday nights are nothing but trouble” (who are “those” people?- Saturday is our rap, hip hop night). Then in the “great inspection” (done purposely in the middle of a excellent Medina bands show, which had many off your Medina children there, I was informed that “things” would continue to be found to keep us closed. _With keeping our teens safe…you can get out of the WeeksEnd teen club safer, easier, quicker then the -just to name to establishments: Third Base (no accessible back door), and O’Brian’s when they’re regularly over capacity. I mention bars as comparison because our teens are there too. I see teenagers at these establishments consuming alcohol. If the Medina officials were so “wonderful and skilled,” there are much more dangerous violations three store fonts down from us, and they seem to be allowed to operate with no harassment, and continually endanger patrons with their unsafe building and underage drinking. The WeeksEnd was singled out because of personal issues, lied about, and closed down without being fined or given time to fix our “violations,” while other businesses that have the same “violations” are still operating. And further more, you are ignorant, Jennifer. You obviously know nothing about what you’re talking about, and no one was ever in danger despite what picture our officials try to portray. Whatever or whoever your motivation is, now you can go back to them with some informed facts instead of what corrupt individuals are telling everyone. By the way, when did you ever hear or see us whining?

Inspection results should be freely available for anyone to view at their leisure. Seems to me either a) No one has bothered to look at these inspection results, or b) No one has bothered to make them easily accessible (I.E. On this webpage). If the Law was broken, then there is no issue. By the way, what happened in Rhode Island was simple stupidity involving the improper use of pyrotechnics and a fire alarm siren that was easily overtaken by the stage sound system. I seriously doubt that was the issue at this club.

I would like to take a moment to respond to some of the comments expressed on this "guest book", which apparently I am using as well, (because after all it is not a message board),in regards to the violations found at the Weeks End dance club. It seems to me that everyone, or more likely the violators, have forgotten the reason that they were cited. Lest we already forget the tragic events that happened at the Rhode Island dance club in the not so distant past. What messages would be scrolled across this "Guest Book" if there had been a fire due to the "violation"s and our children had been killed? Would we be reading about how negligent the Village of Medina had been? In particular our codes officer? We would be protesting the Village police force for not doing their job? Not only do we have wonderful and skillful civil servants working for the Village, but ones that do their job in a professional manner. The Village police and the codes enforcement officer cannot ignore such a violation, especially considering what happened in Rhode Island. Too bad if you were fined? What would you do if you had been sued for wrongful death? Stop your whining, and correct the violations. Obviously you knew better. The Village is not against our teens, or harassing our teens, apparently to this Mom, they are looking out for them.

Wow, people are turning crazy. I didn’t realize anyone would loose control over my ligament concern and opinion. I was merely noting my disgust for the lack of support this community has for teens (or all age activities). I never mentioned the name and words: Mr. Busch, and “social promotions”, where is this odd lunacy coming from?! I’m sorry, I guess I forgot it’s wrong to be supportive of anything. Oh, and thank you for brilliantly speaking for me and my profession, as well as that of other teachers. By the way I am involved. --Good luck Medina, such a beautiful town, don’t let it go to ruins

I'm appalled that this community has nothing left for less fortunate teens to do that keeps them out of trouble. With that teen dance club closed on East Center st, I'm hoping I will not find my property and young children now exposed to the reproductions of having nothing supervised for teens to do anymore. At (work) I have heard the truth about the closing of the teen club - basically how it was closed on ridiculous grounds. What's left now? Back to the alcoholic businesses for some more underage drinking? Wandering the streets finding trouble? I think if there was more community support and activities ALL teens (not just privileged), this wouldn't be such a shock. Last I checked with my students, and personal research, that the teen dance club was the only creditable, regular, safe and controlled outlet for all teens alike. Yes, I said safe. We all know of the unrelated domestic dispute stabbing that occurred outside of the building by now. Well it was both freak and sad, but still unrelated to the safety of the club inside that. My friends and work peers have been letting their teens go for almost two years now, and some nights my peers would stay with their children because of its fun, inviting, and family safe environment. Good luck to anyone else who will dare to take the challenge that the family took when they decided to go against the grain and do something for this community's teens. Hopefully they won't get ran out like this family did.

Im really glad that the wonderful police department of medina has nothing better to do than harass kids that like to ride their bikes. we cant take them to the skate park because bikes arent allowed, so we ride around town, but apparently we arent allowed to do that either, so where are we supposed to ride our bikes? and our wonderful corruption of the police department (im not saying all the force) and the great building inspector can abuse their power and close down such an awesome place as the weeksend, because they think its a problem,...it was a great place for kids to have a good time, it keeps kids off of the streets on the weekend nights, and its a drug and alcohol free inviroment. the great cops here dont understand how much the weeksend really means to kids who love music or have a band. theres nowheres like the weeksend near here. but now that its closed because a couple of wonderful "authority fiugers" have to be inconsiderate and close minded and are most likly going to have to deal with more people on the streets and friday and saturday nights because kids have nowheres to go. i hope some people out there will realize that it was a nice place and that its a horrible thing that it had to close. good day

Medina may have been a great place to grow up when small towns didn't have that many dishonest and disgusting people but medina isn't so fun to grow up in anymore. There really isn't any place to go and have fun here so most of us go else where on weekends. (lockport; buffalo) My other thing is, is that i have heard of the stores downtown complaining that the people of medina don't shop there enough. its kinda of hard for the poeple that have money to do that becuase they don't stay open long enough. they only stay open till 5 and thats when most people are getting out of work and HS students are finishing their practices for their sport.

Hello Medina. Born and raised in that wonderful small town, I'm currently a U.S. Peace Corps Volunteer in the city of Zaporozhye, Ukraine. I work in an NGO Resource Center as my primary assignment, but work with many students- from elementary to university- level, who love to learn about anything American. I'm currently looking for any elementary teachers from the area who would be interested in creating pen pal relations with 2nd and 3rd grade students who are studying English. (I must add that their English skills are quite impressive!) My main goal of this project is to paint a picture of "real" American, rather than the glamour, glitz, (as well as the sex and violence) that is force-fed to the Ukrainian population through Hollywood. Many Ukrainians do not have the opportunity to travel abroad, and this kind of contact will prove invaluable to them. Thanks, and best wishes. Spaciba e da svidanya.

I really feel that if anything the YMCA is going downhill...First of all membership costs have risen significantly. Month memberships are no longer available, the only "short" term membership available is the $99 3 month, which is around $40 more than if the old month memberships were still available. Also there used to be 3 month memberships that were available at a lower price, I think around $75 dollars. Also the idea that the only way to get a year memebership is to pay up front, or hand over a blank check allowing 12 dollars to be taken from your checking account every month. College, and high school students especially are at a disadvantage due to these memberships. The majority of high school students who would use the Y generally play a sport, in many cases 2 or 3. Now students pay for memeberships which go to waste. I thought the YMCA was a non-profit organization...? Another unfair practice at the Y is discrimination of any and all lacrosse players wishing to keep their skills sharp in the off-season. Basketball has 2 full courts, as does raquetball, wrestlers have a matted training room, that can also be used for boxing, the weight lifting facilities help out many, and baseball/softball has a pitching machine in the basement. Yet, lacrosse players have specifically been told none of them would be able to play catch at the Y ever. It's really sad to see what could be an extraordinary place for all to enjoy go to such a horrible waste...yet another example of the crumbling foundation of Medina

Just to warn all about entering your email address in any website guestbook. Do you get emails promising you of untold fortunes from wives/sons/accountants/lawyers of dead dictators from Nigeria/Ivory Coast/South Africa/Angola/Namibia and other countries? Here's how they get your email: These are 419 Scammers (in this case), MUGU GUYMEN or GUYMEN collect email addresses from guestbooks on websites. In every Guestbook that has had emails collected you will see a guestbook post from a 419 Scam Group. Entries from MUGUS or MUGU GUYMEN from Nigeria in a guest book indicate that all the e-mail addresses are now in the hands of 419 scammers from countries in West Africa. They're putting these warnings so that other 419 scammers would not harvest the e-mails here. PLEASE THINK TWICE BEFORE PUTTING IN YOUR E-MAIL ADDRESS IN GUEST BOOKS. If you need to contact the owner(s) of a website, e-mail him/her/them directly. Go to the: Google Search Engine and do a search of GUYMEN NIGERIA. Try it and you will find out that they are all over guestbooks they stake their claim too. Beware of these scams, these MUGU's are the scum of the internet. Please go to http://www.fraudaid.com or http://www.scamorama.com for more information.

Hi to any and all old friends in Medina. Moved to Fort Myers after losing Bob. Live near son Jeff and family. Don't regret the move - at least I'm warm and don't have to shovel snow! Happy New Year all!
